On January 10th 2014 I took part in a poetry workshop, led by Geraldine Green, who was in fine form and enthused the small group of good poets who were taking part. The poem below was one of the ‘spin offs’ from the day.

Try ‘Fox’ she said, what springs to mind?
Not the faded pathos of a sun struck book
ignored and immobile on a dusty shelf
but the sharp stink of its vulpine presence
slithing with ease through hedgerows
alert but louche, tail trailing straight.
Fox is self- sufficient
Fox can kill for pleasure
Fox can dance to prey
Fox can queue to mate
Fox – the wildness that we lost.
Thanks for commenting Geraldine.
I must post my ‘Rune’ poem here, which also came out of that good workshop. I have polished it since you saw it!
Thanks for posting, and sharing, your poem Ivor, really enjoyed reading it. “sharp stink of its vulpine presence” is perfect and the last line is just nails it.
I’ll click on the arrow and listen to it, too.
