Unused coils from a 1945 electrical control panel

I hold two coils of burnished copper
pristine, unused as electrical conductors
treasured for their vibrant colour
which carries its own power.
Fifty years ago I would wait
to watch that colour step down
from the Diss to Bury bus
to supercharge the afternoon.

Your grandmother has gifted
you her colour, its Celtic traits
of artist and activist.
Wear it with pride Milly.
