How reassuring it must be
believing your experience and knowledge,
however slight,
takes priority in all discussions.
How lucky to have found a partner
of similar insular confidence,
but subservient
to your encyclopaedic bombast.
How brilliant to have embellished
waistcoats, to be worn by both,
with badges
advising of your wealth of travel.
How fortunate to have a voice
that knifes through social protocol
broadcasting knowledge
generously and frequently to all.
How grateful we were for interjections
in our conversation with another , who
was interested
in our own unglamorous history.
Naturally, such abilities demand
First Choice of the better seating
Second Helpings,
a possessive sense of preference.
Would you be astounded
If you read I was appalled
when I learned
you had been a public servant?
